Painting the Kitchen/Family room!!

Well today (11-10-08) marks the 3rd day of painting!! It's been quite annoying to be on the 3rd day!! It should have been done by now!! We were told by the girl at the Home Depot that we needed a tinted primer to do the "Deep Garnet" color we wanted for the Kitchen!! (If you don't know already, we're doing a wine themed kitchen & just continuing the color into the family room, just not the same theme) So we reluctantly bought 2 gallons of the tinted primer (white primer with magenta mixed in) & 2 gallons of the deep garnet!! She said all we needed was to put on one coat of the primer & then all we'd need is to put on 2 coats of the deep garnet & it was all good!! Well we did that & when we got to coat #2 we knew that it was going to need at least one more coat so that would make it 3 whole coats of the deep garnet!! We had to wait 4 hours between coat which really sucked because we're only getting in 2 to 3 coats a day!! Well after coat #3 in the kitchen, I was still VERY unhappy!! Jeremy had to go get more paint because it took 1 gallon to do just the kitchen (the parts with the cabinets & all)!!! We still needed to do the "dinning area" & the family room!! I knew the kitchen (in some parts) was going to need a 4th coat!!! I was really mad because the girl at the Home Depot told us that if we didn't use the primer, that we were going to need about FIVE COATS of the paint to get it the color we wanted!! WELL WE'RE ONLY ONE COAT AWAY FROM FIVE!!!!! So when he went back for another gallon of the Deep Garnet, he told the girl at the Home Depot that helped us the day before what we were having to do, she was SHOCKED!! So they gave us the paint for $5.00...I guess that's better than nothing!! The white part of the wall (on the left in first picture) is going to be another color, we just need to get one thing done at a time!! This may just stay this way for a little while...well at least until after Christmas!!

Only have a some minor touch-ups due to some

tape/paint issues!! YES, I know my kitchen's a

mess, but that's what happens when you have to

move everything to a central location (away from

the painting)!!

passed that last "lonely" cabinet is where we stopped

yesterday & picked up today!!

See...it needs about one more coat!! (I hope)

This room will not have the same "wine" theme

in it! We just picked that color & theme for the

Kitchen because it would be easy for me to decorate

the family room & the Kitchen with this color. I needed

a color I could use in both rooms (because they obviously

run together) but not necessarily use the same theme!!!

We like it & I'm looking forward to the finished result!!!
